Beloved General Hospital actress Leslie Charleson, cherished for her nearly 50-year portrayal of Monica Quartermaine, was hospitalized after a fall just days before her passing at the age of 79.
Leslie Charleson, celebrated for her iconic portrayal of Monica Quartermaine on General Hospital, has passed away at the age of 79. Her death marks the end of a remarkable career spanning nearly five decades on the beloved soap opera, with her final appearance airing in December 2023.
Charleson’s health challenges in recent years were well-documented. In 2017, she suffered a leg injury after a fall while walking her dog, leading to a two-month hiatus from filming during which Patty McCormack temporarily stepped into the role. Over time, repeated falls led her to rely on a walker for mobility. Tragically, just a week before her passing, she was hospitalized following another fall.
Frank Valentini, executive producer of General Hospital, shared the news of her passing on X (formerly Twitter), stating: "It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Leslie Charleson. Her enduring legacy spanned nearly 50 years on General Hospital, and just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaines, Leslie was the beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew. I will miss our daily chats, her quick wit, and her incredible presence on set. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to her loved ones during this difficult time."
